Many international students need a job in order to finance their studies in Germany. This makes reliable information on financing options and legal regulations all the more important.

The SIK explanatory video “Tips for international students - How do I finance my studies in Germany” was updated on 01.05.2024. It now includes the latest legal changes that came into force with the Skilled Immigration Act.

Since December 2020, the explanatory video (in German and English) from the Service Center for Intercultural Competence explains the requirements and options for financing your studies, explains legal restrictions on jobs for international students and provides practical tips on planning your studies in Germany.

In this way, students and applicants can get an initial overview of the topic of student financing before their stay in Germany and know the most important contacts and points of contact.

The video is available in German and English with subtitles. This means that important terms and the names of contact points and advice centers, for example, can also be read.

The production is based on a video clip by the Initiative Wissenschaft Hannover on behalf of the state capital Hannover and the Studentenwerk Hannover.Thank you for your support!

The video production was funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research.

Home address, cleaning schedule, party room: what is everyday vocabulary for German students living in halls of residence, with all its peculiarities and subtleties, can be quite incomprehensible for foreign students. Since 2011, the multilingual Illustrated Dictionary of Student Accommodation published by Deutsches Studentenwerk (DSW) has made it easier for foreign students to enter the world of student accommodation. Now the DSW is presenting new editions in French, Spanish, Arabic, Polish and Russian, funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).

In pictures and words, each in three languages, the illustrated dormitory dictionary explains life in the Studentenwerk dormitory with a tour of all the rooms, from moving in to moving out. It provides tips on communicating with roommates, university and student union staff.
