Waste prevention

We avoid waste wherever possible and deal with unavoidable waste in an environmentally conscious manner. Among other things, we support companies that are explicitly committed to waste avoidance. The following section provides examples of how waste avoidance is implemented at our company:

Hot beverage supply: To reduce unnecessary plastic consumption, we have been handing out coffee cup lids only upon request for several years. We also offer the option of filling your own coffee mug / reusable cup at our tea and coffee machines.

Low-packaging products: We try to use products with as little packaging as possible. For example, ketchup/mayo/mustard dispensers were introduced in 2019 instead of the small bags. Larger containers, which generate less packaging waste, are also preferred in the production area.

Cooking in batches: we replenish production during ongoing operations according to the actual needs of our guests. In this way, we avoid unnecessary food waste.

Component meals: Since we avoid fixed dishes and instead allow free choice of components, we reduce organic waste. With us, everyone can have exactly what he or she likes and does not have to put up with unpleasant side dishes that, in the worst case, end up in the garbage can.

Self-service: For many dishes, there is the option of self-service. Depending on how hungry you are, you can decide for yourself how much to put on your plate. This can avoid unnecessary waste

Banana bread: since 2018, bananas saved from the bin can be eaten in the form of a banana bread in our refectories. The company "Neue Werte" produces banana bread in different flavors. Bananas that would have ended up in the waste garbage can due to purely visual defects are used for this purpose.

Waste disposal system: We ensure a consistent waste disposal system in our cafeterias. This starts with waste separation in the dining halls and extends to disposal by waste fraction (glass, plastic, paper/cardboard, residual waste and organic waste), including the collection of used fats and used cooking oils.
