Regional purchasing network

We work with various regional suppliers and save CO2 emissions by keeping transport distances as short as possible.

Beverages

Back in 2016, with the involvement of the members of the cafeteria committee, we changed our range of beverages. Since then, the range of beverages consists mainly of regional suppliers and partly also of fair trade beverages. The regional beverage suppliers include:

fritz-kulturgüter GmbH (Hamburg)
Glashäger Brunnen GmbH (Glashagen, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania)
Lemonaid Beverages GmbH (Hamburg)
Gebr. Westhoff GmbH & Co. KG (Bremen, Germany)
Sonnländer Getränke GmbH (Rostock, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania)
Weise Milch GmbH (Rühn, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania)

Meat products

We also found several regional producers & suppliers for meat. These include:

Mecklenburger Landpute (Severin,Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania).
Mecklenburger Fleischwaren GmbH (Wismar, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania)
Wildbret MV KG (Süderholz, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania)

Fish

In the north there are excellent suppliers of fresh fish. Among others we work with:

Norfisk Wismar GmbH / Norfisk GmbH (Wismar,Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania).
WISMAR Fisch-Feinkost GmbH (Wismar, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania)
FEMEG GmbH (Rehna, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania)
In addition, we offer fish from sustainable fisheries according to market availability. This means only fish from non-endangered stocks or selected species from aquacultures. The selection of fish consists of 38% MSC-certified fish (MSC= Marine Stewardship Council - independent and non-profit certification organization). Unfortunately, the labeling is not possible for licensing reasons. The market availability and the market price situation do not currently allow for an expansion of the product range with offerings from sustainable fisheries. However, it remains the declared goal of the catering companies to increase the shares. To this end, an annual market survey is carried out.

Other regional products

In addition, you will find ice cream from the Eiswerkstatt Rostock in our freezers, asparagus and potato products are sourced from a farm in Demmin, among others, and in the Mensa St.-Georg-Straße you can buy honey from bees from the Botanical Garden of the University of Rostock.

The beekeeper Sonja Schweinitz has been taking care of some bee colonies in the Botanical Garden of the University of Rostock since 2015. The Botanical Garden offers excellent living conditions for bees with a diverse and rich supply of nectar and pollen. Since 2016, we have been selling the honey produced in 250 gram jars in refectories. The proceeds are used to finance the bee project in the Botanical Garden in the long term. Other goals are to arouse interest in bee and nature conservation among cafeteria guests and to advertise the Botanical Garden.

Marketing Society of the Agricultural and Food Industry Mecklenburg-Vorpommern e.V.

The Marketinggesellschaft der Agrar- und Ernährungswirtschaft Mecklenburg-Vorpommern e.V. is the largest network of the agricultural and food industry in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern with 130 partners. We have been working closely together since 2013. Every year, several special offers are offered in the refectories that focus on regional and seasonal products. These are campaign weeks, campaign days or, since 2019, campaign months as part of the "Culinary Calendar of the Year". Over the years, a large number of regional products have become established in the menus of the dining halls.
