Genetic engineering

Our suppliers must prove in writing to the Studierendenwerk that their products do not contain any genetically modified organisms (GMOs) that require labeling. The ecotrophologist regularly checks compliance with this assurance by examining the product data sheets.
Why is this important to us?
- Uncertainty remains about possible late effects of genetically modified foods.
- Genetic engineering can lead to traditional plants being displaced, thus affecting biodiversity.
- Genetically modified plants could spread uncontrollably, contaminating non-GMO agriculture.
- Farmers could become dependent on a few large seed companies.
